The MIB2 infotainment system is found in a wide range of Volkswagen Group vehicles produced roughly between 2016 and 2019. If your VW, Seat, or Škoda came with a Discover Media or Discover Pro head unit from that era, chances are you're running MIB2 — and App Connect (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) can be unlocked remotely, without a dealer visit.
What is the MIB2 System?
MIB stands for Modulares Infotainment Baukasten — Volkswagen Group's modular infotainment architecture. MIB2 is the second generation, found in:
- Volkswagen: Golf Mk7 (facelift), Passat B8, Tiguan Mk2, Touareg, Polo Mk6 (early)
- Seat/Cupra: Leon Mk3 (facelift), Ateca, Arona
- Škoda: Octavia Mk3 (facelift), Kodiaq, Karoq, Superb Mk3
MIB2 units include model lines like Discover Media (MIB2 Standard) and Discover Pro (MIB2 High). Both support App Connect activation.
What Does MIB2 App Connect Activation Unlock?
Once activated, App Connect enables:
- Apple CarPlay — iPhone integration with Maps, Messages, Music, and more on your dashboard screen
- Android Auto — Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, and other Android apps on the infotainment display
- MirrorLink — screen mirroring for compatible devices
Without activation, these options either don't appear in the menu or are greyed out on MIB2 systems.
Compatibility Check: Does Your MIB2 Support App Connect?
Before ordering an activation, confirm the following:
- Your car has a Discover Media or Discover Pro unit (not the basic Composition Media or Composition Colour)
- Your smartphone is compatible: iOS 7.1+ for CarPlay, Android 5.0+ for Android Auto
Not sure whether your unit qualifies? Contact Elite Car Coding and we'll confirm before you order.

Troubleshooting MIB2 App Connect Issues
- App Connect menu missing: This usually means activation hasn't applied yet or the software version is outdated. Contact us if this persists after activation.
- Phone not recognised: Use an Apple MFi-certified or USB-IF certified cable. Third-party cables often cause connection failures.
- CarPlay greyed out: On iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay and ensure your car is listed and allowed.
